Before we go any further, let's try a really simple test, usually it's the first thing I try anytime I have a no start situation. This let's me know whether I have a fuel problem or an ignition problem right from the git-go! This all being before breaking out the diagnostic stuff.
So
Let's either shoot a 1-2 second burst of starter fluid down the carburetor throat.
Or
Dump 2 teaspoons of gas down the carburetor throat.
I stress doing any of this, gas or ignition stuff outside the garage or away from the house or other vehicles. Nothing like having no where to live because your vehicle would not crank up.
Have you a 1st line of defense (a big soaking wet towel to throw over the carburetor)
A 2nd line of defense, a 5 pound fire extinguisher (messier, but will save the day!)
Does it spit, sputter, pop, try to start up with the introduction of fuel into it? If so, this may be a fuel issue and not an ignition problem.
At this point, is it fuel or ignition that we pursue?
Let's try some pics! One day I'll make better ones.
Pic 1) good circuit-continuity
pic 2) bad circuit- no continuity
pic 3)Test 1- black ground to distributor body
pic 4) Test 2 - distributor pick-up coil

What are the symptoms now?
Let me know, so we can keep going.
