I have just replaced a bad alternator (it was a dead short in the alt). This car came to me in non running condition. Tested crank sensor (445ohm) book says between 360-460 and it fluctuates when I pass a piece of keystock by the pick up has a three prong cam sensor and I dont have a scope to test. Coil packs are getting power and ground but my multimeter doesn't do hertz for the pick up test. I am getting no spark and no run condition. Any ideas?

Use your scan tool to check for rpm signal.

Is the timing belt ok?

This may sound stupid but did you check the main relay which powers the pcm and the fuses underhood?

Timing belt is good and timed correctly. If the relay was out wouldn't it throw a code immediately? That has always been my experience with the pcm. Fuses all check good as well. By the way it cranks over very well just no spark it fires one time through the spark tester then nothing no matter how long it cranks

When it came to me there was no power due to faulty alternator. So the computer has been reset. And what I meant is wouldn't it throw a code for the pcm or one of the control system sensors if no fire is detected. And yes I tested all the relays under the hood and the fuses as well ( was tryin to leave nothing to chance lol) I know when this gets figured out i'm gonna feel like a bozo cause its bound to be something simple that has been overlooked.

Yup and the fun part is I asked him what it was doing before the alt went out lol before he brought it to me he just said it wasnt running right and the car kept running out of electric so he wanted me to change the master cylinder lol gotta love some of my customers. And I also borrowed my friends scope for the cam sensor and it is bad. Wasn't able to do this til this morning but at least it got figured out that would have bugged me for a while lol.
