The car was sitting for about 4 days. I went to start it one morning with no crank and no start, no engine light on, but on the dash, it displays a message. The message says Press clutch to start but there is no clutch the car is an automatic. I’m at a loss.

Hi,

Press clutch? That's a new one. Is the vehicle fully in park or neutral? Also, by chance do you have a scan tool that can retrieve codes? Also, a weak battery may be causing this to happen as well.

Do me a favor. First, try this simple battery load test and let me know the results:

Next, if the battery passes the load test, see if it will start in neutral. There may be an issue with the neutral safety switch/range sensor that is sending this message.

If it doesn't change in neutral, we need to scan the can-bus. CAN stands for controller area network. Basically, the different modules are tied together via a few wires. This type of scan will retrieve codes regardless of the module storing them.

Here is a link showing how it's done:

Let me know what happens with the two tests I mentioned. Also, let me know if the scan is something you can do or have done.

Take care,

Joe
