This is not my car. This car belongs to a friend of mine. He was driving home from work the other night, and his lights went dim and the car shut off in the middle of the road. He thinks alternator went out. But the battery was eight years old. He put a new battery in the car, and the car cranks but will not start. I checked all the fuses, they are okay. I used an obd scanner, and got a few codes, but do not remember what they are. I erased them, and then disconnected the battery. I let the car sit for five minutes, reconnected the battery and nothing changed. Even with a jump, the car still will not start. This is the STS model. What could be the problem?

is there any security or theft light remaining on past bulb check or flashing?
If so, try a spare key or if none, try cleaning that key where the pellet is and try again.
If there is no security light on or flashing, can you hear the fuel pump run when you first turn the key to run, before you turn the key to start?
If not, check the fuel pump relay fuse and the PCM fuses and if they are okay, feel if the fuel pump relay clicks one time when someone else turns the key to run. Put your finger tips on the relay and feel.
If it does click, try a new relay is the fuel pump still does not run and the fuses were okay.

I think you are going to have to have it towed to the dealer and have them scan for trouble codes. find out why that security light is on and also have a spare key made while you or they are there.
