Where were those burned wires? Did they come out of the head light switch connector?
First look at the terminals on the old switch you removed. If two terminals are dark or discolored, the two mating terminals in the connector must be cut out and replaced. Those can be universal crimp-type terminals that are plugged in individually after cutting away the melted plastic in the connector body. Solder them to the wires in addition to crimping them.
The first clue to look for is whether the dash lights work. If they do not, check fuse # 18 in the inside fuse box. That's a blue 15-amp. If the dash lights do work, that fuse is okay. The fuse box is under the steering column. You have to remove the "knee blocker" to get to it. That's the cover on the dash under the steering column.
If the dash lights work properly, check for voltage on the black / yellow wire at the head light switch connector. That has to be measured with the connector plugged in and the switch turned on.
Let me know what you find up to this point.
