The vehicle listed above is a Sport model. Shifts just fine into reverse but won't move. All other gears work fine, not low on fluid, not showing any code on my obd2 scanner.

Hi,

When it is in reverse, does the engine rev as if it is in neutral, or is the engine under a load as if it can't move the car?

Let me know because if the engine revs, we either have internal damage or a line pressure issue. If it feels like it is under a load, something may be preventing it from moving such as a differential issue or a brake issue.

Let me know.

Take care and have a great Easter,

Joe

Hi,

We have two ways to begin testing. First and the easiest is to perform a scan of the can-bus to see what codes are stored.

CAN stands for controller area network. Basically, the different modules are tied together via a few wires so they can communicate with each other. This type of scan will retrieve codes regardless of the module storing them. In this case, scanning will likely point us to a pressure sensor or an internal fault.

Here is a link that explains how it's done:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/can-scan-controller-area-network-easy

Or we would need to confirm transmission line pressure is within spec when the vehicle is placed in gear. This requires testing transmission line pressure and is a little more time consuming and dirtier job. LOL

I just went to the manual to get you the directions, but I have a problem. The manual for this vehicle requires scanning for codes first so the correct test is performed. Ugh!!! Sorry about that. Normally, there is a general line pressure test procedure.

Let me know if the scan is something you can do or have done.

Take care,

Joe

I bought an obd2 scanner and no code comes up for the transmission. It only shows the codes for the O2 sensors I need to replace.

I was told by a shop that I just have to get a new transmission because the solenoids are fine so something inside must have broken. I asked about a clogged filter, and they said it wouldn't cause this problem.

Hi,

It is very possible. By chance, did they check line pressure? Also, what was done to confirm there isn't a solenoid problem? Did they actuate them via a scan tool?

Let me know. Also, let me know if you plan to replace the transmission yourself.

Take care,

Joe

They just told me they did the standard solenoid test. I asked if they checked the filter a CD, they told me they didn't because it had nothing to do with my problem.
"Something inside broke" is the only an answer I can get from the shop.

Hi,

Are there any odd sounds when you place it in reverse or even drive the vehicle? There are different things that can fail causing a reverse issue.

If they indicated the electronics are working, that increases the probability of internal failure. You may be better off getting a good used one and installing it. I can help you through the procedure if you want to do it.

Let me know.

No noise at all except for a very low hum kind of like a sound of gears moving. It doesn't shift hard or anything like that either.

Hi,

If you hear something inside that sounds like it is turning, the transmission needs to come out and be taken apart to make the determination. If the pan is removed, we could check to see if there are any metal shavings or damaged components other than that, line pressure testing may show us something.

Let me know what I can do to help you.
