Starting with no revving

I couldn't start about 2 weeks ago so mechanic diagnosed and changed the battery. Then a few days ago I couldn't get it started and mechanic diagnosed a faulty crankshaft sensor and changed but now starting with no revving.

This vehicle isn't offered in the US, so my technical information is very limited. However, I'll try my best to help.

First, is this a gasoline or diesel engine? Next, is the check engine light staying on when the engine is running? If it is, have you checked for diagnostic trouble codes?
