Have you checked the coolant level?
Are the fans operating?
A lot of cars have a limp mode that activates when the engine is too hot, it will limit engine power in the event of high temperatures. The point of this is so you do not try to force it to go.
Check those two items and let me know what you find.

Couple questions. First of all, is your check engine or service engine light illuminated? If it is, I would recommend pulling the codes (link below) to see what it gives.
