I just go free g5gis far and ccx when I got it, it was near out of transmission fluid. Cit looks as crutch at some point the top of engine has caught fire. It ran good but I ever took it on hilary. Just a few blocks here and there. But after maybe 7 miles I park at house let idle and go to take off and it has no power wont go above 2,200 RPMs. And wont gain speed.
I put transmission fluid in it and know all fluids were good. But I need to know if because exhaust being rusted out would cause this or the cc3d or vacuum line somewhere or if a combo of all? Can someone point me in right direction as I am very limited on funds?

Hi,

The first thing I would recommend is to scan the computer for diagnostic trouble codes. This should help point us in the right direction.

Here is a quick video that shows how it's done:

I realize not all people have a scanner, but most parts stores will do it for you free of charge.

Also, take a pic of the engine where you feel there was a fire so I can see if there is anything that could be related to the problem.

I hope you understand why I recommended the scan. These problems can be the result of several things. Without having trouble codes, it becomes a guessing game and often leads to replacing parts that aren't bad.

Let me know what you find or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe

PS: Please confirm the engine size. Every 1998 Escort in my manual is indicating a 2.0L.
The regular Escort has a 2.0L single overhead cam and the ZX2 has a 2.0L dual overhead cam.
