No key detected after bad accident with shift knob?

Well, it all started when the driver of my SUV stopped very fast and decided to turn off vehicle while still in drive mode and some shifted the knob to park, but the SUV was still thinking it was in driving mode. So, my shifter was stuck in park while the car was thinking it was still in driving mode, so I couldn't start my vehicle and then after a few tries moving the shifter it went back in place into drive mode. Then I moved the shifter back into park and the vehicle started right up with a bunch of warning on dashboard and then disappeared once I got home. I put the shifter back into park and turned off my vehicle but once when I wanted to turn it back on it didn't want to crank to turn on and now, I have my SUV saying no key detected. What do I do? Do I need to reprogram the computer? Can I just rest it?

Hi,

This is odd. You can turn the engine off while the vehicle is in gear, and it shouldn't hurt anything. If it indicated the key is not in the ignition, then you do need a scan tool that can communicate with the PATS (passive anti-theft system).

Do you have a spare key you could try?

Let me know.
Joe

Yeah, I have a second key and it does the same thing, no key detected. Also got a code p2610 that says ECM/PCM Internal Engine Off Timer Performance.

Hi,

As far as the code is concerned, make sure the battery terminals are clean and tight. Also, confirm the battery is in good condition and charged.

Do me a favor. I attached information below related to a "key not detected" message. Try that and let me know what happens.

Take care,

Joe
