Last week I was using a portable air pump with a fix a flat in it. After running for a few minutes, my car shut off and would not restart. After trying about five times it finally started.

I missed work two days in a row. And have tried to get this fixed. I ordered a new ignition switch because I thought that was the problem.(I have to wait two days for it to get delivered).

Upon checking my junction box inside the car over half of the fuses have no power going to them even though the fuses are in good condition.

The battery is at 12.6 V. Dome lights, door ajar light (and annoying dinging), headlights, wipers, hazards work just fine.

I’ve tried to dive into and understand wiring. I can say without hesitation it is still not a strong point whatsoever! I think I’m more confused now than when I originally started.

I gave up after trying to read schematics. The only thing I was able to do was test the wires from the ignition switch with a test light. The IG2 10 amp has power (orange). However, cluster 10a (pink) does not. And that is where I gave up.

I also forgot to mention that the last two days it seems when it’s really hot out (I live in Las Vegas) it doesn’t work. But late at night when it starts to cool down it starts like there was never a problem at all.

The idea that it starts normally when it's cooler doesn't make sense.

Do me a favor. I need you to check three fuses in the under-hood fuse box. The ign 1, ign 2, and the B+ 2 fuses.

These three fuses provide power to the ignition switch. Which then powers the interior fuse box. Actually, the B+2 provides power to a portion of the interior fuse box all the time.

Do the same thing with these three fuses. Inspect the fuse and also confirm there is power to and from it.

Let me know what you find.

Take care,

Joe

See pics below. Pic 2 shows the fuses to check in the under-hood fuse box.

Okay. So, all three fuses are good and have power. I did notice that the diagram shows a 50-amp fuse for the IG2. However, the fuse that is in there is a 40 amp.

Early this morning I went out and the car started up just fine and I had to drive about 100 and something miles away stayed for a few hours and returned.

Now trust me I know this makes not one lick of sense. The temperature was above 100 today and as soon as I went to start the car, I had the exact same issues. I then grabbed an industrial fan, opened the hood and placed it facing downwards towards the fuse box and battery. About two minutes after placing the fan I got inside to start the car and it immediately started up.

Also, I am leaving for work right now and my Shiftronic (manual) which has not worked for me in about a month all of a sudden started working and I was able to downshift. After about five minutes it stopped registering it and doesn’t work again.

Hi,

If the 40-amp fuse isn't failing, leave it. Now, since it starts normally when it cools off, I want you to try something. When it won't start, wiggle the relay and fuses to see if one makes a difference. Something may not be making good contact when it gets too hot. Keep in mind, that heat makes metal expand. I have a feeling that is what is happening.

Let me know.

The connection in my hand seems to be the culprit!. I barely touched it a few times and this recreated the problem I’ve been having

It doesn’t seem to be locking in place I can barely press on it, and it starts to fall out.

Hi,

Absolutely that can be the problem. It should snap into position. If it won't, closely inspect the pins inside each side and take notice if any seem bent or pushed inward.

If the connectors are all good and the clip is damaged, see if you can get a small zip tie around it to hold it closed and prevent it from coming apart.

Let me know.
