My immobilizer ring broke, and I replaced it with a used one matching part numbers. Had a key made before it was programmed to my VIN.

Hi,

When you say you had it programmed to your VIN, which part are you referring to? Is it the key or the immobilizer ring?

I ask because keys must be programmed to the SKREEM/WCM in the vehicle in order for the system to recognize them as valid keys.

Also, if an unprogrammed key should still crank the engine and it should briefly start. The system is designed to provide passive protection against unauthorized vehicle use by disabling the engine after about two seconds of running, does it run for a couple of seconds?

Also, each time the ignition switch is turned to the on position and will store fault information in the form of a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) if a system malfunction is detected. Have you scanned the can-bus system? If not, try that and see if codes are stored.

Here is a link showing how it's done:

Let me know.

I replaced a broken immobilizer with a part number matching one from eBay. A locksmith came and cut and programmed a key. Before my friend with star scan obd2 came and flashed the immobilizer to my VIN.

Hi,

It sounds like you followed protocol. Is the security light staying on at all times once the key is turned to the run position? Also, do you have access to a scan tool that can retrieve codes as I mentioned above?

Okay, if the locksmith programmed my key to the immobilizer before I had my VIN programmed to the skim. It would be the wrong transponder chip code right. Because the skim model was still programmed to the cars VIN it came from.

Hi,

Yes, that is correct. The key sounds like it is programmed for the original vehicle it came from. Is that the sequence it was done?

Let me know.

Yes, that was the sequence locksmith cut and made key. Then the guy from project 51preformamce and dyno came and programmed skim to my vin. So, a new key made now should start the beast, right?

Hi,

I would think so. It's funny. I used to be so confident with things like this, but anymore, I tell people anything is possible. However, it does make sense.

Let me know how things turn out for you. I'm interested in knowing.

Take care,

Hi,

Reading through that information, it doesn't appear anything was completed. I have a feeling what you and I discussed is the issue.

Let me know.

Nothing but the mil checks then with no handshake no test no start. I'll let you know soon. Calling a different locksmith tomorrow. If this doesn't work, I'm wavering the flag and going to dealership.
