About a week ago I was driving my car. When I came to a stop the car started to shake and it was getting a very rough idle. I immediately shut the car off. When I attempted to restart the car it would not start. The car cranks normally but that is it. I had the car towed back to my house and performed a scan. Several codes came up. It said that I was getting a misfire on cylinders number one and number four. It also said that I had a possible bad camshaft and crankshaft sensor. I replaced them both as well as replacing all spark plugs and coils. Still nothing. I spoke to a friend and he told me to do a compression test. I did and sure enough nothing in all four cylinders. I realize there can possibly be a broken timing chain or camshaft. My main concern is that this did not blow the engine. If the cylinders are bent then I have some major issues to deal with. How can I tell if there was any additional damage done after I confirm that the timing is bad? Do I have to pull apart the engine to confirm this or is there an easier way?

Remove the valve cover and see if the camshafts spin when cranking the engine over.
It may even be easier to remove the upper timing chain cover.
†Disconnect the connector from camshaft adjustment Valve 1 (N205) - 1 -.
†Remove the bolts - arrows - and then the camshaft adjustment valve 1 (N205).
†Remove the bolts - 1 through 5 - and the upper timing chain cover.
