I have been dealing with this for a few weeks. I took the car to NJMVC for inspection. I received a communication failure. I then took it to the dealer 3 times. Each time the dealer said the car is communicating fine, is ready for inspection, and has the latest available software. Each time I took the car back to the NJMVC and it failed again. The last time the dealer themselves took the car to the MVC because they couldn't believe that it was not communicating. Both the dealer's computer and my own OBD reader can communicate with the car. Only the NJMVC computer can't communicate. In the end, the dealer said the car is running perfectly fine and that there is nothing more they can do as they can't repeat the communication issue that the MVC is getting. They actually told me to take it to a private mechanic that is a certified emissions repair facility.
The NJDEP is telling me to take the car to an emissions repair facility. It was also suggested to have the ECU software reflashed. Per Hyundai, this is not possible as the car has the latest software, and their systems do not allow for reflashing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to spend thousands chasing a problem that no one seems to know the cause for. Again, the car communicates with both the dealers' computers and my own OBD scanner.
