Click Smog Test Preparation. Second page of that gives great prep examples. Check air filter, spark plugs, and fuel pressure. Fuel filter may have become clogged and the fuel pump is working harder than it should. Fuel injectors may need to be cleaned. Check idle air control, mass air flow sensor, and O2 sensors.

If it's burning a lot of fuel it could be a very simple solution or a combination of a few things. Remember the amount of fuel it uses depends on a few different variables (spark and oxygen).

Suggested Repair

Check the air filter, spark plugs, and fuel pressure. Inspect for a clogged fuel filter and an overworked fuel pump, clean the fuel injectors if needed, and check the idle air control valve, mass air flow sensor, and oxygen sensors.
