If the clutch is not disengaging the clutch or popping back, then you have an issue with the slave cylinder or air in the system.
I would suggest inspecting the system for a leak but more than likely the slave is leaking. If it is then instead of replacing just the slave, I would replace the entire system.

You can find entire clutch kits that are not that expensive, so it makes sense to just go in one time and replace the clutch.
