It started when i overheated on the highway. Changed radiator, thermostat, and water pump. Still over heats. Oil is milky and radiator has fuel smell to it, white smoke in exhause fumes. So i figure its the head gasket and im willing to get it replaced. But the mechanic says 1500-1800 bucks to resurface and all that good stuff. Sounds steep to me. Is it??? Also my heat has stopped workin could that also be the head gasket?

The cost of the head repair will vary depending on what is wrong, if just a surface and crack test the cost will be less compared to a crack repair and straighten, i feel your mechanic is covering himself in case there is extra to fix, trouble is we don't have X-Ray eyes so we can't see some of these problems untill the head is removed. The heater will be a related problem if it was working before head issue. Ask you mechanic about prices and what you get for your money first.
