Engine Performance problem
1993 Nissan Sentra

A few days ago I started noticing that if I pushed down on the accelerator the car would sputter instead of accelerate. It would stop if I let up on the gas and just gradually accelerated. Yesterday it started stalling out everytime I came to a stop and was reluctant to restart. It's acting like i'm running out of gas but I have a half full tank. I've tried fuel injector cleaner and that worked for about 15 minutes. I think it could be the fuel filter but I have no idea where to find it. Can anyone give me feedback on what the problem could be?

The fuel filter is right near the brake master cylinder on the firewall.

Other causes of the problem:

Dirty fuel injectors (cleaning the injectors often fixes this).
Bad MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor
Bad TPS (throttle position) sensor
Bad or dirty MAF (mass airflow) sensor
Low fuel pressure (leaky fuel pressure regulator or weak fuel pump)
Vacuum leaks (intake manifold, vacuum hoses, throttle body, EGR valve)
Bad gasoline (fuel contaminated with water or too much alcohol)

Sometimes, what feels like a hesitation is actually ignition misfire rather than lean misfire. The causes of ignition misfire may include:

Dirty or worn spark plugs
Bad plug wires
Weak ignition coil
Wet plug wires
