1989 Nissan Sentra Front Wheel Drive Manual

Hi, im trying to locate the position of the thermostat in a 1989-1990 Nissan Sentra. I have looked where the housing leading up to the engine is and its not there? Could you please tell me where it is so I can replace it please.

It is on the left hand side of the engine, on the firewall side.
