The a/c only works when the fan is on "4" (of 1, 2, 3, 4). The fan blows just fine there, but nothing comes out (a/c or regular air) until it gets to "4".
Thanks!

Test the blower resistor with an ohm meter your eadings should be...
1&2= .5-.6 ohms
1&3= 1.4-1.6
1&4= 2.5-2.8
Also test the connector for power with a voltmeter.

I don't work on cars -- I just wanted some information for when I take it to a repair guy -- I don't want to be completely ignorant. I just need an idea of what it might be in case he says "You need a new XXXXXX for $$$$$!"
Thanks -

So should I just say "I think it's the blower resistor"? One person I talked to said it could be one of the "relay switches" -- I don't know what that means...

I appreciate your advice.

What a customer should say, is "I need an estimate". Let them tell you what's wrong, if they son't get it right, they are on the hook, not you!

Thanks for the opening line -- that helps -- but I have no way of knowing then if they DO get it right. You think it's something called the blower resistor? If he says I need a new this and that, I won't know what to say.

Thanks -

All I can tell you from here is what the most common problem for your symtoms is, but it CAN be other things too. Say what I suggested.

You were absolutely right -- it was the blower resistor -- charged me 70 for the part and 52 for labor. I appreciate your advice, and I will use this service again!

I found what to click on - it's under your name, not mine - - but what is a point? Do I give 5 or 100? I have no idea what the scale is, and the popup window doesn't tell me. Thanks!
