The heat gauge is not moving much and the defrost/heat is not getting very warm. Is this just the thermostat or maybe something else?

Hi there,
Check that the thermostat has not failed and fallen apart. this would cause the engine not to warm up.

I agree with MHPAUTOS, here is a guide on how to change out the thermostat and I included the instructions for you car in the images below.
Make sure you get the orientation for the thermostat correct or the engine will overheat. Check out the images (below). Please let us know what happens.
