1994 Nissan Pathfinder Four Wheel Drive Automatic 160000 miles

I'm having problems getting the boot to seat in the housing. Should I seat the boot in the housing before returning the piston or return the piston with the boot attached to it? I tried the latter and find the boot is not seating in the housing.

The boot may not seat perfectly, but after the caliper is back on and you first press the pedal it will extend the piston back out relaxing the boot.
