We have been having issues getting the car to actually start for the past few years. It has been siting for about a year, but we have a brand new starter, new battery, new alternator, new wiring harness, new positive battery cable, new oil, etc.... total over haul. But when we installed the starter and connected the battery, huge sparks came from the positive side of the battery. Why?!? Also, could t be possible, that when we took the starter to be tested for output that they put the neutral wire on the wrong side? Any help would be great...

Hi actoncausa,

If you had reversed the installation of the battery terminals, that would happen.

Otherwise you need to check if the starter cable had been installed properly and is not touching any engine parts causing the shorting. Positive should go direct to the starter.

Always connect negative battery terminal last and test for shorting by touching the terminal first, any attempt to push the terminal in could cause a lot of damage if there is any shorting of cables.
