200sx timing belt gone...replacement cost?

I have a 1997 Nissan 200SX-SE with 114,000 miles on a 1.6 engine. On the highway, it just died softly and quickly. Diagnosis is that the timing belt went. The car turns over, but compression is nil. Some suggest just replacing the engine with a used one. Other say it could be fixed. Which would be less expensive? I've never had problems with this car, and everything else is perfect. Any ideas?

you are looking for about 12 hr labor replacing chain
and about the same to change the engine
its been some time since i worked @ one so i not sure if its a free engine or not (piston hit valve in case of chain failure)
