I recently got my car fixed, the radiator being cleaned a new water pump being fitted and the water resievor bottle cleaned and filled. In saying all this a week later the head gasket gives out, now my question is could the work that was done on my car caused this?

Highly unlikely..... but if the car was overheated from the leaking water pump or plugged radiator, that would cause the head gasket to go or be weakened so it would be just a matter of time.
