Brakes problem

Hi guys, I have a Nissan Pulsar Q N14. It runs great but the hand break is not working, I looked at the leaver that you pull up to engage it and the cable is still attached. So i think the prblem is at the other end. Was wondering if you could tell me how to fix it as im a poor student and dont have a lot of money.
