1983 Other Nissan Models Manual 177000 miles

Our 1983 Datsun 280ZX has sat undriven for about 6 months. When I jump-started it the engine turned over and ran smoothly. I left the jumper cables connected to our other car for about 5 minutes after starting the Z. When I removed the cables the Z stopped running. The battery is dead again. Is the problem with the battery or the charging system? Should I have left the jumper cables connected for a longer time?

Thanks much for your help.

If you left the jumper cables connected while both cars are running you probably fried both the battery and alternator on the 280Z. The proper way to jump start is once the car with the dead battery starts you immediately remove the cables.

You don't leave it connected unless the car with the dead battery is Off. What you did here is you created another problem.
