1997 Nissan Micra Turning over but not starting

Engine Mechanical problem
1997 Nissan Micra Manual 64000 miles

the engine seems to turn over i.e. attempting to start-but just won't start! Fuel pump and fuel filter seem to be fine. Has anyone got any suggestions as to how I could go about fixing this?

check for spark at plugs !!
