I have a 2002 Nissan Maxima 6-cylinder with 58,000 miles. When I start the car I hear a rattle that decreases as the car warms. The rattle can still be heard intermittently when driving the car. The oil indicator flickers when I start the car and then goes out. I'm not sure if this would have any impact, but I live in an area that has been below freezing for most of the last month. The car is not garaged. Any thoughts on the cause of the rattle? Thanks in advance.

Last oil changed? and Oil vicosity? Are you using a winter grade oil.

The oil gets thicken when cold, therfore it takes time to get all the way on top the engine.During this time the oil pump is working real hard to suck and push oil, as soon as it lightens it takes a break.

And could be a timing chain slapping the guides and excessive bearing clearances.hope this is not the case
