I have a '98 Nissan Maxima. I was told with Nissan's I don't need to replace the timing belt because its a chain. Is this true?

They are not anywhere near as much a "tune-up" part as a belt is because they don't stretch anywhere near the same amount as a belt does. I have have an 89 sentra that runs a chain that hasn't been serviced. The only problem is that when a chain goes, it's never a fun experience. So the theme here is usually the replace it before your stuck scenario.
