93 Nissan Maxima - Car makes grinding noise

Hi I have a 93 nissan maxima as stated, when driving there is a grinding noise coming from the front of the car at times. The sound will go away once I ease off the gas. My first thought is its a transmission problem, I checked the fluid and it is very low, im going to flush the fluid and replace it. If I still hear the noise what should I do or check? Thanks
