Air Bag Light

Significant vibration at highway speed due to snow/ice build-up in wheel wells. After a 25 mile trip, noticed blinking Air Bag light. Is there a usual suspect for this light? Would like to avoid service charge associated with disconnecting the vehicle air-bag system. Known shoddy sensor? Likely bad electrical connection?

Obviously, owner's manual directs service by authorized technician, but I would like to be very specific about what I want fixed.

Hi there,

You will need to get a scan done and this will identify the component of the SRS that is faulty, due to the dangerous nature of air bags,

Here is a video to show you how

https://youtu.be/VflcXgWKhqw

Please run down this guide and report back.

The air bag light on the dash board is blinking. Can you tell me how to reset it? Also, if I reset it will the airbag be deployed when needed? I presume here that the airbag light will only be reset if there is no problem with the airbag itself and the sensor for the airbag is malfunctioning and resetting the sensor will take care of malfunctioning of the sensor and thus the airbag will be deployed when needed.

Hi there,

You will have to do a fault code read to determine the exact fault with the SRS system. Just re setting the system is not enough, the code will re set if a problem exists and the SRS system Will be in-op until the fault is rectified.

This indicates an issue with the SRS (supplemental restraint system). It could be a sensor or something else. I suggest having a dealer check this out since this is a critical part of your vehicle's safety features in case of an accident.

Two months ago I went through the car wash and my ebrake and battery lights started flashing intermittently heater blower losses strength when I accelerate and the headlights dim. Started idling crappy at a light a week and a half ago and completely died. Got it jumped drove a few miles parked and shut it off and couldn't get it restarted but it had power. Towed it to a shop they said my security system was engaged and they couldn't do anything. Towed it to the dealer they said it was my engine control module and they replaced it $1000 later. Picked it up yesterday and it died on my drive home. The battery and ebrake lights were flashing and my airbag light went on the heater blower was losing power and the entire dash was dim. The car made a real bad knocking sound then completely lost power. Had it jumped and it will run but I'm scared to drive it. I've spent almost $1300 to fix it and have gotten nowhere. I have replaced the alternator battery egr valve and starter all in the past 7 months.

Alternator sounds like it has failed. All your issues revolve around low voltage. The car wash got water into the alternator and shorted it out from the sounds of it

Is there any thing I can do to reset the airbag sytem or make the light turn of? I dont know if maybe it is a fuse or something that may be needed to be replaced.

Hi there,
this is indicating a fault with in the SRS system. You will need a scan to identify the problem. The SRS will be in-op until the fault is repaired.

Try this:

Open the driver's door. Note the rubber covered button, a button which is
pressed by the door when the door is closed. This is the Driver's Door
Switch (DDS).

Turn the ignition from OFF to ON. Press the DDS at least 5 times within 7
seconds after turning the ignition switch ON. Turn the ignition OFF.
Start the CAR.

Don't work with one door try both front doors opened and redo the procedures

Let me know if it doesn't work

Rasmataz. The suggestion didn't work. I tried pushing the DDS with one door and then tried with two doors, it still doesn't work.

Check the diagnosis sensor unit wiring connector if its loose it's located under rear of console box. Remove console box. Disconnect diagnosis sensor unit connector. Remove ground bolt and 3 tamper resistant Torx T50 bolts. Remove diagnosis sensor unit. Ensure sensor brackets are not bent or rusted.

Retrieving codes do below

USING AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT

Turn ignition off then on. System is now in USER mode.
If light comes on for about 7 seconds and goes off, system is okay (no fault codes are stored in memory).
If light does not come on, go to AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS .
If light comes on and stays on, either SRS has deployed or part of diagnosis sensor unit is defective. Go to AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT STAYS ON under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
If light comes on for about 7 seconds and flashes on and off, fault codes are stored in memory. Go to next step.
To enter self-diagnostics and retrieve fault codes, turn ignition from off to on and immediately turn driver door switch (dome light switch) on and off more than 5 times within 7 seconds of turning ignition on. This changes self-diagnostic mode from USER mode to DIAGNOSIS mode.
In DIAGNOSIS mode:
If light flashes slowly and continuously (3 seconds ON, 2 seconds OFF), a fault occurred but is no longer present (intermittent fault).
If light flashes a marker sequence (7 seconds ON, 2 seconds OFF, 3 seconds ON, 2 seconds OFF) and then flashes quickly, record quick flashes. Quick flashes represent driver or passenger-side air bag fault codes. For example, two quick flash represents Fault Code 2. Eight quick flashes represents Fault Code 8. Go to FAULT CODES under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
If light flashes a marker sequence (7 seconds ON, 2 seconds OFF, 1.5 seconds ON, .5 second OFF, 1.5 seconds ON) and then flashes quickly, record quick flashes. Quick flashes represent side air bag fault codes. For example, one quick flash represents Fault Code 1. Four quick flashes represents Fault Code 4. Go to FAULT CODES under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
After servicing system, connect both battery cables, open driver-side door, and turn ignition from off to on. Check AIR BAG warning light for proper system function. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . If fault code is indicated, problem still exists, go to FAULT CODES under DIAG%20...

Che'lu. I had already made an appointment this past Monday at Nissan Motors and they took a look at the car, paid my $80 Analysis fee and told me that it was turned off. Walked back to the car to drive away from their lot and guess what. The light was still blinking! They turned around and told me that they need what parts I need and it ended up being a $2,100.00 repair. My mom freaked and said forget it! She's not willing to pay that much for a 12 yr old vehicle. I still worry about the light situation and what might happen if I'm driving her around in it and per say, the bags deploy out of nowhere or they won't deploy when we get into an accident.

Failure in the air bag system. You need a shop expierenced in this type of repair to pull the code and track down the failure.
