Engine Performance problem
2000 Nissan Maxima V8 Four Wheel Drive 187000 miles

While stopped at red lights my car sputters as if it is going to cut off. And as you accelerate it sputters.

Sounds as if you could have a loss in power that could come from a number of things. First check you air filter. Then try some of these (not all may apply) Engine lacks power. See one of the following: 1.) Incorrect ignition timing. 2) Fuel filter clogged and/of impurities in fuel 3) Faulty or incorrect gapped spark plugs. 4) Air filter dirty. 5) Spark timing control system not working properly. 6) Faulty ignition coil(s) 7) Brakes binding. 8) Auto Trans fluid not correct 9) faulty distributor cap or wires 10) EGR system not functioning properly. 11) Use of sub standard fuel. 12) Low or uneven cylinder compression pressures 13) Air vacuum leak at intake manifold or plenum

Now this also could be spomething else (and you can leave #7 out). Do you think you have a loss of power? Does your car idles irradically in nuetral or park, and not just with foot on brake at a stop? Hanowen10-need more info on your car-like mileage

1999 Nissan Maxima - 190K milles. Runs rough in gear - does not stall. If car is in park or nuetral the car idel is great, with or without the foot on the pedel.

Check some of the things I put above. Your car is also do for a new timing chain (timing chains should be replaced on most vehicles after 100,000 mile r so). You can also go to advanced for a free scan of codes. Have you kept up with routine miantinance? Have you had a new timing chain?
