2000 Nissan Maxima 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive

i HAVE 217k MILES ON the car. It makes a humming noise when I turn the steering wheel to the left or right. Sometimes I smell a faint burning odor when I left the hood to check out the problem. What's wrong. Other than this the car drives great.

Hi rayvictory06,

Thank you for the donation.

When humming noise is present, it could be a failing pump, low fluid level or a bad pressure valve/hose.

As to the burning oil smell, it could be oil leakages that is getting onto the exhaust.

A visual inspection and test would be required to isolate the source.
