The other day when i got into my car and put the key in the ignition i t wouldnt let me turn the key to the right to start the engine? I turned the steering wheel and it then locked up on me so now i have both the steering wheel and the ignition locked up? What happened? Does it have something to do with the cars security system? I called a nissan service dept. and told them my problem and they said i had to open up the console and push a button for the shift lock but when i opened the console there is no button for the shift lock? Can you please tell me on how to get my ignition and steering unlocked.

I think the dealer is referring to the small (1/4" diameter) cap that is close to the shifter handle. Pry that one off and then insert a key or screw driver into the slot that is now visible. That should unlock the steering lock mechanism. Make sure the shifter is properly restored to the park position before trying to re-start.
