1998 Nissan Maxima Engine Size unknown Front Wheel Drive Automatic 128000 miles

I recently had the starter and the battery replaced. The next day my "service engine soon" light was on when I started the car. The manual says its related to the emmision system. I returned to my mechanic and asked for a diagnosis. His diagnosis is 2 or 3 bad O2 sensors that need to be replaced and some work on the EGR valve including a flush. All this to the tune of $1900.00. He stated that this type of problem is unusual in a Nissan but expensive to work on. Do you agree with his diagnosis?

Ask for the exact codes he pulled from the PCM. Did the car run ok?Sounds funny to need that many o2 sensors and an EGR flush?

I don't have the codes but here is the estimate for repairs. Part SG285 O2 sensor B1S1 for 142.75. Part SG291 O2 sensor B1S2 for 203.25. Part SG300 O2 sensor B2S1 for 142.75. Part SG36 O2 sensor B2S2 for 203.25. Part EGR1156 EGR valve for 230.15. Part213-4031 EGR valve temp switch for 300.00. Part 4F1397 EGR valve back pressure transducer for 162.50. The car runs great and sounds great (to my untrained eye and ear).

Have the codes cleared and drive it until the light comes back on and then got to Autozone (scan for free) and get back with the exact codes. Need to know what they are aiming the shotgun at. Lol
