1997 Nissan Maxima Starting problem

My car is having starting problems. Sometimes it starts right off the bat, but most of the times it takes three or four turns to get it to start. Sometimes it doesn't even start in park, I would have to put it in neutral in order for it to start. My brother sugessted that I needed a new starter, which I got the problem stopped but now it is back to the same problem. What is the problem?

when it won, t start does the eng turn over, as in sound like it wants to start?

It does not make any sounds at all.

You need a neutral safety switch
