Can I check my alternator by pulling the positive cable off of my battery to see if it still runs? I dont want to blow my computer!

Hi there,
Do not test the charge rate this way as you can damage the ECU, you should test the output voltage at the main terminal at the alternator with a volt gauge, you will want around 14V depending on battery condition.
