If I was told that I need to replace my timing belt and water pump does that mean that the tranny is about to go bad?

HI there,

The transmission has nothing to do with the timing belt & water pump, the timing belt is replaced periodically and the water pump may be replaced at the same time, but the water pump is not a mandatory replacement, it can be left if there is no signs of coolant leaking.
