I have a 1993 Nissan Maxima 300SE with 290 000 km covered, the car has a loud ticking sound which is inaudible at idle but when under hard acceleration the noise is clearly heard.
What could be the cause of this ???

any info would be really appreciated

You sure its a ticking sound or a bunch of marbles being thrown in an empty can.

If its a ticking noise might be a lifter problem needing shims, now if its spark knock/detonation can be a timing, fuel, and possibly a knock sensor going whack!.to include an EGR problem.

Or a good engine flush-new oil/filter might work
