1991 Nissan Maxima Rear Defrost

The rear defrost on my Maxima does not work. The light on the instrumetn panel comes on when the button is pressed but, the windows never defrosts, no matter how long it's on. Any idea what the problem could be and how it may be corrected.

If the window has been tinted then it is unplugged so as not to melt the tint

Don't have any tint on the back window. But where would it be unplugged if there was or where should I check?
