1993 Nissan Bluebird O/D and speedo

Recently my bluebird's [Altima equivalent] speedo will drop to 0 then come back up mid-drive. It could be instantly that it comes back up to speed or even a km. Seems to happen more so over bumps.
The kilometre readin will also stop when this happens.

I don't know if this is related. But the past 2 days when i've started the car, the O/D light on the dash flickers on and off for a few seconds then goes out [which it should] This has nevr happened before. And i wonder if there's an electrical fault some where.

Or is this car's speedo etc mechanical.

Have the vehicle speed sensor checked out
