I have a 94 Nissan Altima with 175K miles, automatic transmission. My stoplamp switch went bad and now that I have repalced it, the lights will not turn off. Tried 2 switches, same result. Check the plastic pad on the brake pedal that the switch contacts an it was in tact. Checked the switches with an Ohmeter and they all react properly (normally closed and open when the switch is depressed. Currently out of ideas.

Just got back in town. I tried a second switch and it worked. Temporarily. I took apart the original that failed and one of the new ones and found that the the new one was a cheaper model and the pin is actually too short. I am going to go to the dealer and purchase an OEM switch. Hopefully they don't use the same manufacturer as the aftermaket guys.

The "market in general is pretty strange. And inconsistant. I have seen OEM parts repackaged into aftermarket parts, OEM parts available aftermarket, Parts you don't want to use OEM and PArts you don't want to use Aftermarket. I have seen a lot of Autozone electrical parts go belly up and OEm parts GM window regulators ) go belly up. I have seen pricing just all over the board that is incidental of quality.

Anyways, I would do what you are doing.
