Here is the order in which you will want to remove this alternator: 1. Disconnect the battery 2. Remove the engine undercover 3. Remove the radiator (instructions below) 4. Disconnect the reservior tank hose 5. Remove the radiator mounting brackets 6. Remove the radiator and radiator fan assembly Drive Belt Removal 1. And this is for a 2005 Altima V6 correct? The MB symbol confused me. Sounds like taking the radiator off is the big problem. Is that correct? Thanks for all the help. Sounds like it is going to be a job.

That is correct. The MB symbol is for my repair shop here in California, we specialize in MB vehicles, but work on all makes. But yes this is for an 2005 Altima 3.5L V6. It will be a bit of a job but do not let the radiator removal discourage you. It actually is not terribly difficult and is really only held on by a couple of upper retainers that are easily removed from the upper radiator support. After you disconnect the hoses and transmission lines the radiator and fan will pretty much just slide out. But all in all this will be a good days work if your not familiar with the vehicle.

I got the alternator changed. Now when I stop at a red light the heater goes cold. I figured out today that when I turn the AC and the recirculate off it does not do it. Any ideas? Thanks again.

Was this a previous issue or did this just start after the repair? If it happened immediately after the repair it is more than likely related to the repair. Check your coolant level, a lot of times your system will burp after you fill it and drive awhile leaving room for much more coolant. Also, check to make sure you have no leaks and that all coolant hoses are clear of kinks. Let me know what you find.

Try holding pressure on the nut outward while you spin it this will help you remove it. Here is a guide to help you remove the alternator and the diagrams below to show you how it is done on your car:

Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Hello, Thanks for the donation. To remove your vehicles generator (alternator) perform the following operations. This does require the removal of a few major components such as the radiator, so if you need further assistance with one of the removal procedures for a component such as the radiator, just let me know and I will post guidance. REMOVAL Disconnect negative battery terminal. Remove radiator. Remove front/right-side engine undercover. Remove drive belt. Remove idler pulley. Remove generator adjustable top mount, using power tools. Remove generator lower mount bolt and nuts, using power tools. Remove generator lower front bracket bolt, using power tools. Disconnect generator harness connectors. Slide generator out and remove. INSTALLATION Installation is in the reverse order of removal. Torque bolts to specifications listed on diagram below.

Look for a large fuse that is bolted into the under-hood fuse box to see if it is blown.

How do I replace the alternator on a 2002 Nissan Altima? I have removed the electrical components and The top bolt. The bottom bolt is obstructed by a black box (which I assume to be the computer). Also, the belt seems to be an obstacle.

depends on which engine you have. the QR25DE is easier to work with, you just remove the right front engine undercover to access the belt and alternator. on the VG35DE you will have to remove the entire radiator for this job though..

I have a 2.5SL. I have the top engine cover off, all bolts and electrical connections off, but I cannot figure out how to loosen the belt. The middle pully has a nut on the side that I removed, but that didnt do anything.

CAUTION
Avoid placing hand in a location where pinching may occur if the holding tool accidentally comes off.

CAUTION
Do not loosen the auto-tensioner pulley bolt. (Do not turn it counterclockwise.) If turned counterclockwise, the complete auto-tensioner must be replaced as a unit, including pulley.

While securely holding the hexagonal part in pulley center of drive belt auto-tensioner, move in the direction of arrow (loosening direction of tensioner) using tool.
Insert a rod approximately 6 mm (0.24 in) in diameter through the rear of tensioner into retaining boss to lock tensioner pulley.
Leave tensioner pulley arm locked until belt is installed again.
Loosen auxiliary drive belt from water pump pulley in sequence, and remove it.

CAUTION
When installing, do not loosen the auto-tensioner pulley bolt. (Do not turn it counterclockwise.) If turned counterclockwise, the complete auto-tensioner must be replaced as a unit, including pulley. Avoid placing hand in a location where pinching may occur if the holding tool accidentally comes off. Confirm belts are completely set on the pulleys.

NOTE
Turn crankshaft pulley clockwise several times to equalize tension between each pulley. Confirm tension of drive belt at indicator (notch on fixed side) is within the possible use range.

To install, reverse removal procedure.

When replacing the alternator must the battery be replaced also? My car died and the problem was traced to the alternator which was replaced but the station said that the battery was also not good and put in a new battery too. The battery could be only three years old. Would a bad alternator ruin a fairly new battery. No lights lit up on the dash during the problem. The triple a was able to get the car started after five or ten minutes only when I pumped the gas pedal a few times while trying to charge the battery in one last try.

You got a new alternator if its working properly -get the battery load tested to check its condition if okay your problem is coming from somewhere else.
