2004 Nissan Altima 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

when i go to put it into reverse or drive it will not move sometimes and if i take it and put it back in park and shut the car off and restart the car and it will go into gear fine then

Get a scan done to check if there are any transmission trouble codes recorded.

Could be the trans is failing.
