I bought my car about a year ago and 6 months ago I had to have my engine replaced it was under warranty so that wasn't so bad but now my check engine light came on and I need to get emissions to renew my tag so I had it hooked up and they said it was the catalytic converter so I started to look around at prices and found out there are 2 a front and rear how do I know which one to replace? I read about other people with my year and model with the same problems, was it my catalytic converter that put the stuff in my cylinders and tore up the engine, if thats the case is it messing up my new engine? Do I also need to replace the o2 sensor when I change the cat?

Hi
When they said CAT that was because of emissions out of spec. Many things can cause this. Need to have code read an Auto Zone will do free. Then post and will advise.
Let me know
Thanks for donate

I did get the codes they were po420 for the catalytic converter and po507 cuz my roommate cleaned the TB and didn't know that an idle relearn has to be done when you do that. Do I have to take it to the dealer to get that done or can I do it? Plus I still have the questions that I asked in my last message. Thank you in advance.

Hi
P0420 is commonly caused by exhaust leak, intake leaks, injector, spark plugs or incorrect timing. So there are some things to check out before CAT replacement. This code is not indicative of contamination as your engine. The CAT is the 3-way on Bank 1.
P0507 indicates a faulty PCV valve onlt in combo with P0506 is releaen needed.
Also Nissan has recall on CATs damaged by oil from engine of the 2.5L
