2000 Nissan Altima 4 cyl Manual 220000 miles

my engine (this is the second one) shakes and makes sputter sounds (it does not stallout) when the car is idiling. When I step on the gas, this does not occur. What might be the problem and can I fix it myself.

Your problem just might be a dirty throttlebody or sticking throttle plate, but most of all a dirty IAC (idle air control valve) or faulty one. Nonetheless, it all needs a cleaning first and then possible replacement of the IAC
