Steering problem
1999 Nissan Altima 4 cyl Automatic

hi. My wifes 99 Altima had been overheating so we stopped driving it. We recently founf out that we are going to need two cars. so I took it in to be checked. The guy says that the AC water pump belt went bad and has caused the water pump, thermostat, radiatior and the power steering to go bad as well. so he wants to fix it all at a cost of $865.60. My questions are is that a fair cost and can the water pump belt really cause this much damage?

the belt going out wouldnt cause all that damage! no way! if that was what was wrong that would be a good price to fix it, but no way! whats his reasons?

He is now saying that my idler pulley is bad and he needs another $103 to do the job fully. Its so frustrating with these crooks. But anyway he says that because the water pump belt or ac belt went out it caused all that other damage to occur. He says it even effects the steering.

shouldnt have caused that much damage. how long did you drive it for with the broken belt? did it overheat at all?

shouldnt need all those other things from just having the vehicles belt breaking.

you need a new belt. and to fix reason teh belt broke. not all he wants you to do.

I had driven the car for a while. He says we are lucky we didn't crack the head gasket. It was overheating for a while and we couldn't find a leak in the radiator. Then it got very bad so we just stopped driving it.

id have him just throw on the tensioner and new belt and then run it and see what problems occur and fix from there or get a second oppinion.
