1997 Nissan Altima Starter or Neutral Safety Switch

Car would not crank for a couple of days . had car jumped and would work. finally car would not start even with jump. used test light to try and test starter . light came on. ( not sure we tested in right spot). Can not find neutral safety switch to test. no clue how to test it. we need help figuring out the problem... so lost. also fiance accidentally knocked hole in metal like line full of anti freeze that runs beside battery while attempting to get to what he though was neutral switch. I have been without my vehicle for almost a month... I need my car! please help. haynes manual no use

the neutral/ park safey position switch is located at the base of the gear selector.. also test the ignition switch..
