I pinging/tinging sound from the engine just appeared today. It seems to be originating from under the oil cap. Any idea of the potential problem and the potential repair? Is the car dangerous to drive? Thanks John

Hi John,

It is difficult to ascertain the cause of the noise but under the oil cap are the valve trains and any tapping noise is probably due to them.

Open oil cap and start engine, if oil splashes out, it should be ok to drive the car. If no oil splashes out and inside the valve cover looks dry, you might have an engine oil issue.
